Editors BC 2024 AGM, Elections, and Social
Please join us for our annual general meeting on May 15, when Editors BC will be holding elections to fill vacancies on the 2024–2025 branch executive. Details are listed below.
Social Time!
Would you like to catch up with other Editors BC members? After the AGM business, you’re warmly invited to linger for half an hour (or so) and chat with colleagues. We’ll also have a breakout room for anyone interested in learning more about this June’s Editors Canada conference in Vancouver.
Open branch executive positions for the upcoming season are as follows:
• Branch chair: arranges and runs executive meetings, prepares twice annual reporting for the national office, and acts as liaison between Editors BC and the national executive committee and other branches and twigs
• Communications and social media co-chair (one position open, one position taken): promotes the association and the branch to the public by coordinating Editors BC’s social media presence and by ensuring a presence at public events organized by Editors Canada and other groups
• Co-secretary (two positions open): takes minutes at monthly branch executive meetings and acts as archivist by maintaining the Google Workspace shared folders
• Member services chair: attends monthly executive meetings and manages member relations
• Programs co-chair (two positions open): plans and hosts monthly members meetings
• Professional development co-chair (one position open, one position taken): plans and hosts the branch’s professional development seminars
• Publications chair and West Coast Editor managing editor: oversees the day-to-day operation of WCE, including organizing and managing the posting schedule, assigning content, coordinating proofreading and editing, and posting content
• Treasurer: liaises with national bookkeepers on financial and banking matters, acts as co-signing officer, and prepares a yearly branch budget (The treasurer doesn’t need to be knowledgeable about accounting or finance; they just need to be comfortable with numbers and able to use basic functions in Excel.)
• Volunteer coordinator: liaises between Editors BC and potential and existing volunteers, as well as with Editors Canada. The coordinator oversees the Editors BC volunteer program and is the first point of contact for new volunteers
We strongly encourage members throughout the province to join the executive.
The executive meets monthly via Zoom, usually for an hour. However, we hold at least two longer meetings (2–3 hours), usually in January and April.
Please note that student affiliate members are welcome to hold any executive position except for branch chair, co-secretary, communications and social media chair, and treasurer. Editors Canada bylaws limit those positions to regular members only.
Contact Justin Chevrier at volunteercoordinator@editorsbc.ca for more information.
Note: This meeting will NOT be recorded.
