Current Editors BC Opportunities

Blue Pencil Sessions

Blue Pencil sessions are one of the best ways to practise your editing skills and connect with potential clients. In partnership with Vancouver Public Library (VPL) and Surrey Public Library (SPL), our volunteer editors present a live, virtual, one-on-one assessment of a writing sample submitted by local authors.

How it works: Authors submit a one-page summary of their project, a question or concern for the editor to address, and up to 2,500 words of writing, at least two weeks before their scheduled session. The volunteer editor reviews the content and provides one-to-two pages of written feedback. This feedback is discussed during a half-hour scheduled session.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact Justin at justin@editorsbc.ca or Tara and Kyle at csm@editorsbc.ca

West Coast Editor

The West Coast Editor (WCE) is Editors BC’s online newsletter and the best way to stay informed about everything happening with the branch.

The WCE is looking for volunteers for the following positions:

  • Article writers
  • Stylistic editors
  • Copy editors
  • Proofreaders

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the managing editor at westcoasteditor@editors.ca.

Editors Canada Conference 2024

The 2024 Editors Canada Conference will be hosted in Vancouver, BC from June 21 to 23, 2024. If you want to learn about volunteer opportunities for the conference, please contact Justin
at justin@editorsbc.ca.

Other Opportunities

Editors BC often has additional volunteer opportunities throughout the year. This may include representing Editors BC at a booth for a writing conference, helping facilitate a Zoom meeting for a professional development seminar, or being a volunteer editor for VPL’s Teen Book Camp.

If you want to be contacted about these opportunities, please contact Justin at justin@editorsbc.ca

Volunteer Appreciation

Editors BC would not function without the dedication and talents of our many volunteers.

As a way to appreciate their work, each month, one volunteer will be chosen to receive one credit for a free Editors BC professional development seminar of their choice. The volunteer of the month will also receive the opportunity to have a volunteer spotlight article published in the West Coast Editor.

Our 2024 winners so far:
January — Myriam Beaugé
